How To: Style your hair like a Japanese rock star (J-Rock)

Style your hair like a Japanese rock star (J-Rock)

Looking for a hardcore rock and roll image but don't know how to play an instrument?
Mix styles from punk rock and goth to '80s hair bands; and get the extreme look of Japanese rock musicians without ever lifting a guitar.
You Will Need
* A picture of your desired style
* A professional haircut
* A blow dryer
* A comb
* A straightening iron
* A fine-tooth comb
* Styling wax
* Strong-hold hairspray
* Professional hair coloring (optional)
* Clip-in hair extensions (optional)

Step 1: Get a haircut
Take a picture of the J-rock style you want to a salon and have them replicate the style and color. These styles are multi-layered and razored – and sometimes multi-colored – so leave this part to a pro.
If you're wary of permanent color, use clip-in, colored hair extensions.

Step 2: Blow-dry
Blow-dry your hair in the direction you'd like it to hang after you've washed it. Most styles have longer hair that hangs straight down in front or is swept to one side, so dry this part forward using a comb or your fingers.

Step 3: Straighten
Use a flatiron to straighten each section in the direction you want it to go. Move the iron from the roots to the tips along sections of the crown, back, and sides where you want it to spike.
Flip the iron near the ends to create an upward bend.

Step 4: Tease
Tease or back-comb your hair with a fine-tooth comb to get more volume.

Step 5: Put in wax
Dip your fingers in the hair wax and apply section by section in the direction desired to create texture and hold. You can create a faux-hawk style or an all-over spiky look.

Step 6: Finish with spray
Set your style with strong-hold hairspray and you're ready to rock.
